13. Plave

Scenario

Hide and Seek
with Wave

-
In my view, the sky and sea are spread out  and divided into the horizon. As I approach the waves barefoot with footsteps, the waves run toward the sky, and follow me again with ‘sh-waaa-’ sound.
My footprints, which I made while stepping back from the waves, are changed flat again as if nothing happened. Stepp ing on the soft sand cushion, I smile again and follow the waves running back. We play hide and seek all the time like this.

Design Concept

Play with wave wherever you are
We want to play with swelling waves anytime, anywhere.

How it works

Making Process

Step1. Manualization

Input ; 2 buttons
The step motor shall move forward and backward quickly, but at the same distance. And the movement of the step motor must be exquisitely timingd for the movement of the servo motor. The step motor is manually controlled by two buttons.

Step 2. Automation Test

Input ; 2 Ultrasonic Sensors
The movement of the step motor is automated. Then, the speed was adjusted according to the user's use of the device with the ultrasonic sensor. When you use the device, the movement starts, and the speed slows down when you touch your hand. As the speed slows down, the movement of the waves changes and the width narrows.

Step 3. Form factor Study

Step 4. Material Study

‘Plave’ naturally evokes curiosity in the user and evokes memories on the user's beach. Various materials and techniques were studied so that the wave surface itself could become interface.

Step 5 . Making ‘Play with wave’
Input ; user’s location
The location of the ultrasonic sensor was modified to the height of the shin and the back of the wave so that the user could interact when standing in front of the device, and the sensing distance was also changed.
